Animation: Tracking back in 1v1 situations with variations by Jurgen Klopp
Mark out a first area of approximately 20x15m with 2 small goals on one width and a small goal on the other. This is where the 1v1 duels (then 2v1 and 2v2 in variations) will take place. Place a gate at the entrance of this area, then place 4 cones with an attacker at each cone (see animation). The ball source will be at the furthest cone. Finally, place one last cone about 15m from the duel area, this is where your defenders will start the exercise.

The drill proceeds as follows:
  1. The 1st player A plays a short pass to B, who will then play to the 3rd offensive player C.
  2. The latter will then play into the path of D, and it is at this moment that the defender starts their recovery.
  3. D will pass through the gates to play a 1v1 duel with the defender.

Variation 1: the exercise proceeds in the same way but the 3rd offensive player C will follow the action and offer a 2v1 in the final third.

Variation 2: same thing once again, with the addition of a 2nd defender to play a 2v2 in the area. This defender can only start their action when the 1st offensive player has entered the area. This will force the 1st defender to manage the spaces while waiting for their teammate's arrival.
