Adapting the U7 Warm-Up to Children’s Development
At age 7, children make rapid progress in coordination and game understanding. Warm-ups in U7 soccer should therefore evolve by introducing more technical and collective references, while still maintaining a fun approach.
This is the perfect time to introduce simple concepts such as moving into space, keeping the head up, or using both feet. The warm-up becomes an initial learning phase without feeling restrictive.
The objective is clear: prepare the body, but also the brain. In U7, a good warm-up already helps lay the foundations of the game while maintaining a positive and motivating dynamic.
Gradually Integrating U7-Specific Technical Objectives
A U7 soccer warm-up can include light technical objectives, always presented through games. Unlike U6, children are able to repeat certain movements with more precision.
These activities should remain simple and dynamic. The idea is not to correct every mistake, but to increase repetitions in a fun environment. Children improve fastest through play. For example, you can work on:
- Dribbling with changes of direction
- Basic first touch with direction (oriented control)
- Short passing while moving
- Using the weaker foot
- Coordination with and without the ball
Creating an Effective Transition to the Core of the Session
A successful U7 warm-up should naturally prepare what comes next in the session. It’s no longer just about “getting started,” but about creating a learning continuity with the following exercises.
For example, if the session focuses on passing, the warm-up can include simple passing games. If the theme is dribbling, prioritize dribbling situations. This consistency makes it easier for children to understand.
A good U7 soccer warm-up helps save time and optimize the session. Players arrive already engaged, focused, and ready to learn in the best possible conditions.
